More movie premieres coming your way this May, continuing from April, as the springtime is shaping up to be premiere movie season on AFN. Covering a large gamut of genres we are sure to have something for everyone. Some returning shows like the darkly gothic Penny Dreadful and the animated So You Think you Can Dance: The Next Generation will start new seasons, while we will premiere a two new mini-series – War & Peace and Roots.

Any sports fan will know that the excitement of the NBA and Stanley Cup Playoffs will be of paramount interest during the month. The vast majority of the games will be brought to you live with some replays. Be sure to check AFN|sports, AFN|sports 2 and AFN|prime Atlantic on myAFN.net and the myafn.net sports search engine for air times in your time zone; And don’t miss out on the historic 100th running of the Indy 500 later in the month. New to AFN will be daily highlight reports from the wounded warrior Invictus Games being held this year in Orlando Florida.

May is Asian Pacific heritage Month with the theme “Walk Together, Embrace Differences and Build Legacies.” Look for movie titles playing all month long that celebrate the commemoration.

There is a new assortment of ghoulish horrors to be faced by Miss Vanessa Ives and her communion of wrecked anti-heroes. Once again, Eva Green’s afflicted Vanessa will toe the line between sane and insane, and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) will take a trip to New Mexico, which is a journey that has a connection to his first encounter with a werewolf years ago. Will this be the season we finally see Dracula, the vampire master? (TV-MA)

War & Peace

War & PeaceAfter Napoleon’s invasion of Austria, Pierre Bezukhov inherits his father’s fortune, leaving him at the mercy of fortune seekers, especially Helene Kuragin. Prince Andrei Bolkonsky goes off to war, leaving his pregnant wife at home while Natasha Rostova is left worrying about her brother Nikolai who has also gone off to fight in the war. Paul Dano, Lily James, James Norton star in this four-part mini-series event. From the classic novel by Russian author Leo Tolstoy — regarded as one of the central works of world literature.

So You Think you Can Dance: The Next Generation

2016 Invictus GamesThe word “Invictus” means “unconquered”. It embodies the fighting spirit of the wounded, ill, and injured Service members and what these tenacious men and women can achieve, post injury. The Games harness the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their countries. Fifteen nations are invited to participate in the 2016 Games, which will be held from May 8th — 12th, 2016 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. During that week, over 500 military competitors will compete in 10 sporting events as they are cheered on by thousands of family members, friends and spectators. They will compete not only in the spirit of cordial competition, but also in camaraderie among the competitors and nations.
