This month the American Forces Network celebrates its 75th birthday! AFN can trace its origins back to May 26th, 1942, when the War Department established the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). Since then, we’ve evolved under many different names, in many different locations around the globe, serving those who serve. Take a look at our web special that connects our past with our present. The 101st Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday May 28th, 2017, and will be live on AFN|sports from the the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana. The event is scheduled for 200 laps (500 miles). Sun Records (new)

Set in Memphis during the tumultuous early days of the civil rights movement, Sun Records tells the untold story of nothing less than the birth of rock ‘n’ roll. Guided by Sam Phillips, young musicians like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis combined the styles of hillbilly country with the 1950s R&B sound created by artists like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Fats Domino and Ike Turner, and changed the course of music forever. The series chronicles these young artists’ often jarring and sudden meteoric rise to fame in the face of sweeping political change and social unrest.

The Good Fight (new)

This spinoff series from picks up one year after the events in the final episode of The Good Wife. After a financial scam destroys the reputation of young lawyer Maia Rindell, and wipes out her mentor and godmother Diane Lockhart’s savings, the two are forced out of Lockhart & Lee and join forces with Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms. At Reddick, Boseman & Kolstad, Diane finds familiar faces, including Colin Morrello, who is a rising star in the state’s attorney’s office, and Marissa Gold. Though starting at the bottom, Diane and Maia are determined to rebuild their careers and lives at the new firm.

Twin Peaks (new)

OK, it’s happening again, the cult series Twin Peaks is being revived and the excitement level is rising. Director David Lynch is still behind this 18 hour limited series event co-writing the script with co-creator Mark Frost. There are 217 people in the cast with just about everyone in Hollywood in it. Expect the usual “Lynchiness,” we can’t wait.
The Magicians (season 2)

In Season 2 our characters are transported to the magical kingdom of Fillory – and named Kings and Queens of the land to boot – can they save magic? Oh, and there’s still the Beast to deal with. Meanwhile, Julia is on a no-holds-barred revenge quest against the evil God that attacked her.
The Librarians (season 3)

The struggle will be fought on two fronts. First, Apep, the Egyptian God of Chaos, is released from a museum and is revealed to be bent on releasing pure evil into the world to create a chaotic apocalypse. Naturally, the Librarians must stop him… but must do it while also avoiding the new black-ops government agency D.O.S.A. (the Department of Statistical Anomalies).
America’s Got Talent (season 12)

Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne star in this adaptation of Rebecca Skloot’s critically acclaimed adaptation of the bestselling nonfiction book. The film tells the story of an African-American woman whose cells were used without her consent to create the first immortal human cell line. Told through the eyes of her daughter, Deborah Lacks (Winfrey), the film chronicles her search, along with journalist Rebecca Skloot (Byrne), to learn about the mother she never knew and understand how the unauthorized harvesting of Lacks’ cancerous cells in 1951 led to unprecedented medical breakthroughs, changing countless lives and the face of medicine forever.

Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of Fast & Furious. James Wan directs this chapter that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black. They are joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey and Kurt Russell. Neal H. An American Girl Story – Ivy & Julie: A Happy Balance — PREMIERE

A second-generation American of Chinese heritage wrestles with her unique place between two seemingly disparate cultures until she learns to embrace both as positive influences. The process puts her at odds with her parents and grandparents and causes her to rebel, but, through honest communication and forgiveness, everyone reaches a new understanding. The story incorporates many aspects of Chinese culture including holiday celebrations, language, and food and makes mention of the Chinese Cultural Revolution of the time. The Luft Gangster: Memoirs of Second Class Hero — PREMIERE

In many ways, Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson, USAF (Ret) was fighting a fierce battle before, during and after his days as a Tuskegee fighter pilot (Red Tail) in World War II. Jefferson was shot down during a strafing mission over German-occupied southern France and spent nine months in Stalag Luft III, the same P. O. W. camp that was the scene of “The Great Escape.”
