AFN’s summer season is coming to a close, not with a whimper but with a BANG! August being at the transition point of what is promising to be an exciting new 2017 season, isn’t offering very much calm before the upcoming fall season storm. Presenting a healthy dose of new and returning series, specials and premiere movies, AFN summer TV has been, and is going to be, far from dry. And more about the upcoming 2017 new fall schedule next month!

In honor of The Coast Guard’s birthday, on Tuesday August 4th at 7pm, AFN|movie will present the heroic action-thriller – The Finest Hours, the remarkable true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. Happy Birthday Coast Guard!

AFN will transport you to Charlotte, North Carolina for the 2017 PGA Championship. Watch AFN|sports Thursday August 10th for coverage of this essential golf major.

The plot focuses on FBI Agent and Criminal Profiler Jim “Fitz” Fitzgerald, who pioneered the use of forensic linguistics to identify and ultimately capture Unabomber Ted Kaczynski. Fitz faced an uphill battle against a very brilliant criminal, but also against the bureaucracy of the UTF itself.

The Sinner (new)

The SinnerThis eight episode mini-series follows a young mother (Jessica Biel) who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror has no idea why. The event launches a crime investigation whose driving force is not the “who” or the “what” — but the “why” — as investigator (Bill Pullman) finds himself obsessed with the buried motive.

Under Samantha’s guidance, Ray will be charged with protecting a young client (played by Lili Simmons) and continue to try to keep his family together.

2017 MTV Video Music AwardsMTV’s Annual event rocks the house with special performances. The awards are to be held at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The 34th annual award show will air live from the venue for the second time in its history. This year’s show will be hosted by Adam DeVine. Stick this one in your calendars.

Menendez: Blood BrothersBased on the true story, the movie explores the inner lives and motivation behind the murders of entertainment executive Jose Menendez and his wife Kitty at the hands of their sons Lyle and Erik in 1989. The movie will also reveal new details about the extreme abuse the brothers endured at their father’s hands, all while their mother looked the other way. Stars Courtney Love, Nico Tortorella, Myko Olivier and Benito Martinez.
