AFN’s summer season is coming to a close, not with a whimper but with a BANG! August being at the transition point of what is promising to be an exciting new 2017 season, isn’t offering very much calm before the upcoming fall season storm. Presenting a healthy dose of new and returning series, specials and premiere movies, AFN summer TV has been, and is going to be, far from dry. And more about the upcoming 2017 new fall schedule next month!

In honor of The Coast Guard’s birthday, on Tuesday August 4th at 7pm, AFN|movie will present the heroic action-thriller – The Finest Hours, the remarkable true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. Happy Birthday Coast Guard!

AFN will transport you to Charlotte, North Carolina for the 2017 PGA Championship. Watch AFN|sports Thursday August 10th for coverage of this essential golf major.

July is an exciting month on AFN as we offer up a long list of great movies, specials and returning series. We will kick off the month with a “Marvel’s Avengers Weekend” starting Friday, June 30th. AFN|movie will marathon every Marvel Universe movie released before 2016. The marathon will crest with the AFN premiere of Captain America: Civil War Saturday July 1st at 7pm CET/JKT. The complete adventures of Bilbo Baggins in “The Hobbit” trilogy will air on AFN|movie Saturday, July 15th starting with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey at 1pm, The Desolation of Smaug at 4pm and culminating with the AFN world premiere of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies at 7pm. This epic trilogy was directed by Peter Jackson and was written in 1937 by J. R. R. Tolkien.
