2018 marks a new era as AFN is finishing its transition to High Definition service around the globe. We are aware that many viewers have experienced difficulties during this transitory period setting up their decoder boxes, and for that we are deeply sorry for the inconvenience.
January has much to offer to kick off the New Year, so take a look at the breakdown below.
New & Returning Series
The X-Files
AFN|pulse 8:00pm (CET/JKT) Thursday, January 4th
The truth is still out there for at least 10 more episodes. Season 11 will pick up where the season 10 cliffhanger left off with the world in the midst of a pandemic, Mulder looking like he’s on death’s door, and Scully staring down a UFO.
9-1-1 (new)

The series is based on the real-life, high-pressure experiences of emergency response providers who are thrust into heart-stopping situations that are equal parts unpredictable, intense and uplifting. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives.

The Knights Templar were the most powerful, wealthy and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages, entrusted with protecting Christianity’s most prized relic—the Holy Grail—and harboring secrets capable of great destruction. The midseason finale ended with Callie and AJ ditching the prom to keep Ximena from being taken away by ICE agents. The three of them found sanctuary in a church, but their fight is far from over. The second half of season 5 resumes.

Season two starts with six show regulars leaving, but with the addition of Adam Goldberg and Jessica Camacho. Goldberg will play Kilroy, “a gray hat hacker who is eccentric and intelligent and wields a droll sense of humor” while Camacho will play the role of Santana, “a scary-smart, rule-breaking former Army captain who possesses an acerbic wit and calculated bravado.”
Star Trek: Discovery
AFN|spectrum 10:00pm (CET/JKT) Saturday, January 13th
The second part of season 1 begins with Episode 10, “Despite Yourself”: While in unfamiliar territory, the U.S.S. Discovery crew is forced to get creative in their next efforts to survive opposing and unprecedented forces and return home. Six episodes remain for the year.
Black Lightning (new)

Jefferson Pierce has made his choice. He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend: Black Lightning.

This new medical drama focuses on the final years of a young doctor’s training ripping back the curtain revealing the truth of what really happens, both good and bad, in hospitals across the country. Portlandia
AFN|spectrum 7:30pm (CET/JKT) Wednesday, January 24th
Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein are back for one final season, and they’re taking on the big issues before bowing out. Brownstein plays the first female partner at a male-dominated law firm. With sexism, sexual harassment, and sexual assault dominating headlines in multiple industries, the sharply satiric creators of Portlandia will address the issue head-on.

American Masters: This is Bob Hope

During his eight-decade career, Bob Hope was the only performer to achieve top-rated success in every form of mass entertainment. American Masters explores his life with unprecedented access to personal archives and clips from films, radio and TV shows. Excerpts of Hope’s writings are voiced by Billy Crystal along with interviews with Woody Allen, Dick Cavett, Margaret Cho, Linda Hope, Kermit the Frog, Leonard Maltin, Conan O’Brien, Tom Selleck, Brooke Shields, Connie Stevens, Sherwood Schwartz and biographer Richard Zoglin.
College Football Championship Game
AFN|sports Tuesday 2:00am CET/ 10:00am JKT January 9th
The 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of a three-year rotation, the game will be played between the winners of two semi-final bowl games which will be played on January 1, 2018: the Rose Bowl Game, and the Sugar Bowl.
NHL All-Star Game
AFN|sports Sunday 9:00pm CET/ Monday 5:00am JKT January 28th & 29th
Tampa Bay Lightning and the city of Tampa will host the 2018 NHL® All-Star game. The Game will be divided into three 20-minute games, with star players from each NHL division making up the four All-Star teams: Pacific, Central, Atlantic, and Metropolitan.

The Lost Wife of Robert Durst — PREMIERE

Young and wide-eyed Kathie (Katharine McPhee) falls in love with charming, yet quirky real estate scion Robert Durst (Daniel Gillies), only to find their marriage turning stranger, darker and more disturbing as time passes. But when Kathie disappears in 1982, her family and friends are deeply disturbed that her disappearance isn’t taken seriously by police. While Durst is currently in jail awaiting trial for the murder of his close friend, journalist Susan Berman, the questions linger as to what really happened to Kathie.

Star Trek: Beyond — PREMIERE
